Introducing Our 2-Day Upholstery & Furniture Painting Upcycle Workshop – A Collaboration with Stargazey Workshops!

Looking to transform that old, tired piece of furniture into something fresh, functional, and full of character? Our Upholstery & Furniture Painting Upcycle Workshop is the perfect hands-on experience for anyone wanting to breathe new life into their furniture. This exciting collaboration between Sonja of UpTown Junk and Claire from Stargazey Workshops brings together years of passion and expertise to guide you through the entire upcycling process.

What You’ll Learn:

• Furniture Prepping & Painting: Learn the essentials of surface prep, creative painting techniques, and finishing to bring out the best in your piece.
• Upholstery Basics: Discover the art of stripping, reupholstering, and covering a piece of furniture, along with making custom trim to finish it perfectly.

Step-by-step guidance from both Sonja and Claire will ensure you feel confident in your skills and equipped with the knowledge to tackle future projects at home.

Meet Your Instructors:

• Sonja: A passionate advocate for giving high-quality furniture a second chance. With a keen eye for design and meticulous attention to detail, she loves showing how once-forgotten pieces can be hand-painted, lovingly restored, and transformed into beautiful, functional items you’ll cherish.
• Claire: With 30 years of experience teaching upholstery and working on commissions, Claire is dedicated to saving unloved furniture from a dismal end. She’ll guide you through the process of stripping a piece back and reupholstering it with care, ensuring that it can be enjoyed for many more years to come.

What’s included:

We will provide all the tools and materials required to upholster and paint your piece (*see below), along with lots of food,  refreshments and joviality for the day!   If you don’t have a piece, don’t worry we can provide one for you at an extra cost but you would need to let us know at least 14 days before.

What you need to bring:

All you need to bring is a small piece of furniture (eg, an occasional chair, dining chair, footstool, telephone table seat), *along with a top fabric and trim of your choice.  Please note if you wish to learn to make piping trim then please allow extra top fabric or bring some contrasting fabric with you.

Our groups are informal (no stuffy classrooms here), enabling ideas exchange and giving you lots of opportunity to ask questions whilst we show and guide you through your furniture makeover.
